Premier Issue of the Back Pain Relief Online Newsletter

Welcome to the premiere edition of the Back Pain Resource Online Newsletter. This week, we are reviewing one of the neatest products that we have come across in some time. It is called the Re-Heater, and we ran across it at a health fair awhile back. It is a, re-usable portable heat pack which works quite unlike anything we had ever seen before. It is really a neat and somewhat strange device. When you first see it, it is a plastic pouch filled with a liquid. But when you click a stainless steel "trigger" inside the pouch, it starts a reaction that changes the liquid into a solid and also produces heat. So you can take it with you anywhere and have an instant heat pack. They come in all sorts of sizes, from 3" x 4" to 12' x 20" for your back (that's the one we got). There is also a belt that the re-heater can fit into so you can wear it around your body. And once you use it, all you have to do is boil it back in some hot water and it turns back into a liquid. Let it cool a bit, and it is ready to use again.

The secret? The pack contains a form of salt, sodium acetate, which normally turns into a solid at 130 degrees. But by placing this solution in a sealed bag somehow it does not change into a solid until you flex the "trigger". The trigger causes a single molecule to crystallize which starts a chain reaction and causes the entire solution to turn solid and produce heat. It is really neat to watch.

I don't know if these are generally available, but they are found on some websites - one that I visited was Re-heater packs.Their phone number is 800-791-5337.
